The Assiniboine Park neighbourhood sits on the south shore of the Assiniboine River, extending south as far as Wilkes Ave. It emcompasses the main park area, the Assiniboine Forest just west of the Tuxedo golf course, and the forest and marsh docks south of Grant Ave.
While Assiniboine Park is technically all one big park, I've split it up into the main park area, the trails that lead through the forest from Grant Ave to Wilkes Ave, and the marsh docks accessible off Chalfont Rd. The Assiniboine Park Zoo takes up a large area in the western portion of the park.
Cyclists can enter the park from several different trails. The Portage entrance north of the footbridge comes off Overdale St. Trails from the main park area lead west into Vialoux, and east onto Wellington Cres. And the Thundering Bison Trail enters the forest at the corner of Wilkes Ave and Shaftesbury Blvd.
