Living Prairie Museum

The Living Prairie Museum rests along the north side of Ness Ave, next to Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. A self-guided trail runs through a grass prairie preserve, with an interpretive centre and playground in the southwest corner of the park area. The nearby Sturgeon Heights Collegiate school grounds provides a racetrack, football fields, a baseball field, basketball courts, and tennis courts.

Welcome to the Living Prairie Museum! Visitors can enter the museum parking lot off Prairie View Rd, just north off Ness Ave. Facing northeast.

Curious visitors can follow along in the self-guided brochure, using the numbered markers found along the trail. Here at the fourth marker, you'll learn how the Silver Heights neighbourhood adopted its name from the silvery plants native to the area. Facing north.

The Yellow Ribbon Greenway trail takes a bend at the fence bordering the Living Prairie park grounds. Visitors on foot can wander into the park through a narrow opening here. Facing southeast.

The self-guided trail takes a bend near the northeast corner of the park. Here at the ninth marker, you'll learn about the nearby limestone rock that was excavated when the apartments in the area were built. Facing southeast.

Residents living near the intersection between Strauss Dr and Thompson Dr can wander into the east end of the park, where sheep are sometimes brought in to graze on the prairie grass. Facing southwest.

Several basketball and tennis courts are available on Sturgeon Heights Collegiate school grounds. Facing northeast.
