Assiniboia Downs

Assiniboia Downs sits to the west of the Perimeter Hwy, straddling Portage Ave. It is bounded to the north by Saskatchewan Ave, and to the south by the Assiniboine River.

There are two city parks near the south edge of the neighbourhood:

  • The Oaks Forest, found along the north side of Oak Forest Cres, is a large forested area with a pathway running along the south and east sides. A nature playground and seating area are found near the south edge of the park, near a monument to Winogar, an Ojibwe princess from the early 1700s.
  • St. Charles Forest, found along the south side of Oak Forest Cres and running along the north shore of the Assiniboine River, features a pond and a pathway through a forested area.
