Southboine

Southboine sits to the north of Roblin Blvd along the south shore of the Assiniboine River, bounded by Willow Ridge Rd to the west, and a private road across from Scotswood Dr to the east. With four entry points off Roblin Blvd, the neighbourhood is split into two sections east-west by Beauchemin Park. There are several inconspicuous pathways between houses along Southboine Dr leading to small open spaces with views of the Assiniboine River.

There are four city parks:

  • The Soutboine Canoe Launch is a narrow greenspace leading down to the Assiniboine River, found on the north side of Southboine Dr near the north end of Paradise Dr.
  • The Passage is another narrow greenspace leading down to the Assiniboine River, found at the north end of Berkley St. This historic spot was once used by pioneers and Metis hunters as a river crossing point.
  • Beauchemin Park sits between Berkley St and Elmvale Cres, and runs from Roblin Blvd at its southwest corner all the way north to the shore of the Assiniboine River. It features a playground and dirt trails leading down to the river.
  • Bannatyne Grove sits along Roblin Blvd at Shelmerdine Dr, featuring benches and a basketball hoop.

There are two additional city parks that I haven't covered here, because the entrances are narrow enough to feel like you're encroaching on private property:

  • Kelly Landing is a forested area along the south shore of the Assiniboine River, with an entrance on the north side of Southboine Dr near Paradise Dr.
  • The South Assiniboine Parkway is another forested area along the south shore of the Assiniboine River, with an entrance at the intersection between Elmvale Cres and Shelmerdine Dr. You can wander into it from the east through a dirt pathway via Daniel Flood Park.
